One of the most influential, beloved and best-selling musical acts of all time, electronic music pioneers Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million records and played live to more than 30 million fans worldwide. Over the past nearly four decades, the band’s 14 studio albums, including their 2017 release, Spirit, have reached the Top 10 in over 20 countries, including the U.S. and U.K. Formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex, Depeche Mode – Martin Gore, Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher – have cultivated a dramatic electronic sound that has proved influential to innumerable artists, across genres from alternative and indie to electronic and heavy metal. Yet despite their years of success, Depeche Mode remain outside the mainstream, a key part of their identity and the relationship they’ve cultivated with their fans. The trio has evolved into more than just a band, as Depeche Mode and their legions of diehard, rabid fans have taken on a cult-like status, best experienced by attending one of their transcendent live shows.
