Michael Kiwanuka

Since 2012 and the debut album Home Again Michael Kiwanuka began to be one of the most important artist of British indie rock and folk. In 2016 he released Love & Hate and HBO miniseries Big Little Lies picked up that album’s “Cold Little Heart” as its theme song, which contributed to the growth of his career. When creating the latest album simply entitled Kiwanuka, he finally felt himself. ‘When I first signed a record deal, people would ask me, ‘So what are you going to be called?’. And I never thought of that; calling myself Johnny Thunders or whatever, like singers from the past. So, on this album it’s kind of a defiant thing; I’m engaging with who I am and I’m not going to have an alter ego, or become Sasha Fierce or Ziggy Stardust, even though everyone's telling me I need to be this, that or the other. I can just be Michael Kiwanuka’ he said. Michael Kiwanuka will perform at Open’er Festival on July 1.
